New year, new you: how to develop a self-care routine to stay feeling glam

by
Proprietor/Manager

We’ve all been there: we get our nails freshly manicured or our legs perfectly waxed or our spray tan freshly topped up and it looks amazing - we look amazing! We vow to ourselves to keep on top of our self-care regime and never let our nails grow out, our legs get hairy or our skin get pale again. But life goes on and, before we know it, we’re three nails down, two shades lighter and have a small forest growing on our legs. Now, I know I’m being overdramatic here, but I’ve met countless women who just don’t know how to stay on top of their beauty routines. Don’t worry, though, I’ve identified the top beauty treatments you’ll need to look great throughout 2020, with the low-down on how often you’ll need to have them done.

Spray-tan

Spray-tans can last a maximum of a month but – and it’s a big ‘but’ - this is entirely dependent on how much work you put in to maintain your spray tan .  Realistically, it’s likely to last around five to seven days, being at its deepest on Day One and Two and slowly fading over the following five days. If you want to reduce the frequency of you spray-tanning appointments, read this blog , which highlights some of the things you can do to help you prolong your glow. Know too, that whatever happens, your face colour is likely to fade more quickly than that on the rest of your body, so may need to be topped up with self-tanner more frequently. He-Shi do an amazing Gradual Tan that is a firm favourite among our clients and an anti-ageing one containing Hyalauronic Acid(a super hydrator) especially for the face.

Waxing and hair removal

Waxing  presents a slightly more difficult situation as there are so many different areas of the body that can benefit from the treatment, and the length of time it takes for hair on them to grow back will vary. As a Beauty Therapist, though, I can firmly say that there is nothing wrong with a little regrowth. As a rule of thumb, you want to give yourself enough time in-between treatments so that there is actually something for the wax to grip onto. Legs should be done every four to six weeks; a bikini wax can take anywhere between every three to four weeks, depending on personal preference. Facial hair should also be dealt with every three to four weeks.

Facials

With any facial , you’re most likely going to see the effects as soon as you leave the salon, but in order to reap the long-term benefits, a one-off treatment often won’t cut it. The skin’s life cycle (ie, the period over which you shed and renew skin cells), generally lasts between three to four weeks and slows as we age. That’s why I would recommend having a facial at least once a month in order to really appreciate the positive effects. However, there are some more intensive treatments, such as the Diamond microdermabrasion that we offer, which require a well-trained Beauty Therapist to assess your skin and book accordingly as they might be damaging to your skin if used too frequently. Whichever treatment you choose, our expert Beauty Therapists will be able to advise you on the best regime for you taking into account your skins needs, your budget and time you’re prepared to spend to get the desired results.

Manicures and pedicures

If you’re not currently great at taking care of your nails be aware that prevention is most definitely preferable to treatment. I recommend a manicure once every three to four weeks if using our special Gelish manicure. Tucked-away toes (which is what they are at this time of year) require only monthly pedicures, or only once every six weeks if you opt for a Gelish pedicure . Do keep hands and feet well moisturised at all times, though – first thing in the morning, last thing at night is a good routine to get into.

Eyes

At Beauté, we offer a range of treatments to care for your lashes and brows , and the great thing about these two eye-framers is that they grow back at roughly the same rate. This means that you can get your lash lift and tint and eyebrow tint out of the way at one and the same time. You can wait around six weeks in-between appointments for things like tinting, although eyebrow reshaping should be done slightly more frequently – about once a month is fine.

There you have it: your definitive guide to your beauty-treatment schedule to keep you feeling and looking your best this year. Don’t you feel more gorgeous already?!
