Is your skin ready for the summer sun?

A holiday can pass us by all too quickly and before you know it, you’re on your way back to England’s more temperamental weather. In order to make the most of your week or so abroad, there are steps you can take in the weeks leading up to your holiday, to get your skin prepared for the sun.

There are a few things you can do to get your skin ready for the sun; implementing just a few of our tips will help you optimise your tan abroad. Remember, it is important to ensure that you take the necessary precautions as well when tanning in the sun; the British Association of Dermatologists has lots of useful advice.

  1. Use body polish to prep your skin

There are various different body polishes on the market, the best of which will leave your skin feeling moisturised and smoothed. Exfoliates are a great way to polish your body; simply start using it around three weeks before you’re heading abroad to remove dead skin and oils, making your skin ready for the sun.

It’s important to remember that you don’t need to use an exfoliate or body polish every single day! Applying it two to three times a week is plenty, and any more can actually be detrimental to your skin. We also advise avoiding overly powerful exfoliates with big molecules, such as walnut scrubs, as they have been proven to cause little micro-tears on skin, which could risk damaging it permanently.

  1. Moisturise your skin well

Moisturising is the golden rule for tanning preparation and preserving your tan. Despite moisturising being the key to the ultimate tan, many of us are guilty of neglecting this important stage in our skin-care routine before soaking up the sun.

Not only does the sun reduce our body’s moisture levels through sweating, but airplanes also dry out skin; it’s therefore good to apply a full body moisturiser all throughout summer. Additionally, remember to keep hydrated when you’re in the sun; dehydration will do more than dry out your skin – it can leave you at risk of developing sun stroke.

  1. Get a Velvet Skin Body Treatment

If you want to truly prep your skin to perfection, then getting a professional body moisturising massage is a great option – and the perfect way to relax and help you get into the holiday mood.

Our Velvet Skin Body Treatment helps to ensure the skin is silky, smooth and clean and is a great way to ensure your body is ready for sunrays. It can also be great if you have left prepping your skin at home a little too late and want a more immediate solution. Similarly, if you’re coming back from your holiday with dry, dull and flaky skin, which at-home moisturisers just don’t seem to be touching, then our professional formula will be much more nourishing and effective. If you’re looking for a real treat, we can do the Velvet Skin Body Treatment with a Full Body Massage, leaving you feeling extra pampered ahead of your summer plans.

Wherever you’re heading this summer, make sure that you keep yourself safe in the sun. If you do choose to sunbathe, prepping your skin beforehand, in combination with wearing sun cream and following sun safety advice, is a great way to ensure that you’ll get a fabulous tan without putting yourself in danger.
