How to get a head-start on your tan this summer

We all want to look and feel our best this summer, whether you’re looking forward to parading your new bikini on the beach, going to a friend’s wedding or getting your friends and family together for a barbeque, it’s nice to feel confident doing it. We all live busy lives and, despite our best efforts, it can be difficult to build up a tan in preparation for an upcoming event just by sunning in the garden at the weekends. Getting a spray tan might be the perfect, safe solution for leaving you perfectly sun kissed in just 20 minutes and at an affordable price.

Many sunbathers go to dangerous extremes to try to achieve their desired colour. I’m sure we know someone – or might be guilty ourselves – who soaks themselves in oil, wears no sun cream and bathes outside for six hours. Not only does this take time, it is also highly damaging to your skin, leaving it at risk of burns or more major long-term damage. I often ask women: would you let your children play out in the sun in these conditions? The answer is always no, so why do we expose ourselves to that amount of direct sunlight?

With this in mind, a spray tan is the safest method of achieving that bronzed look, without damaging your skin through sunbathing or sunbeds.

What kind of spray tan do you offer?

We stock a Tiamo spray tan that looks lovely and natural on the skin. We also offer a wide range of colours, so you don’t need to worry about looking too dark, or the spray tan not making enough of a difference if you already have a darker skin tone.

How long will the spray tan take?

One of our trained professionals will take you to the shower area and apply the spray for about 20 minutes, ensuring an even tone. Many salons end their treatments there, but we recommend that you relax in our treatment room for five minutes to ensure it has completely dried before get dressed again. The colour then continues to develop for the next 24 hours.

When should I get my tan done and how long will it last?

We recommend not shaving or waxing on the day of your tan, so if you’re wanting to wax before your summer event, it is best to do this at least a day before – we offer a wide range of hair removals which you can find out more about here  . Given that the tan will develop for 24 hours, it’s best to come in a day or so before your event to leave you looking your very best.

Afterwards, we advise avoiding strenuous exercise that could stop the tan developing or cause it to run. Loose baggy clothes are also recommended and it’s a good idea to stay on top of your moisturising routine afterwards click here  to find out more  .

The tan should last for around five to seven days, making it a great option if you want to be tanned for your whole holiday. The great thing about a spray tan is that you can tan over the top of it. Once you’re on your holiday, make sure you take all the necessary precautions, such as wearing at least Factor 20 sun cream and taking rest breaks in shaded areas for long periods, and you will come back from your holiday with a natural tan.

Spray tans are a quick and safe way to leave you looking sun kissed for whatever summer event you might have coming up.
