How does VPL work?
The melanin in the hair hair absorbs the light emitted from the Energist Ultra Plus system and is heated to a temperature which permanently inhibits hair growth. The treatment can remove hair from most parts of the face and body including legs, chin, upper lip, bikini line, underarm, back and chest.
An initial consultation is required which will allow your therapist to discuss the process with you in detail and develop a treatment plan to match your needs and requirements.
The treatment works best on people with dark hair and light skin due to the contrast between the pigments, however the Energist Ultra is also able to treat darker skin types with dark hair. It is NOT effective on white, blond and some red-toned hair. However, at Beauté we offer an alternative in the form of electrolysis for people who fall into the aforementioned category.
Usually 6 sessions will be required, but this will be dependent on your body's natural hair growth cycle.
Prior to treatment
It is advisable to stay out of the sun and avoid sunbeds, at least 6 weeks prior to the treatment to ensure that your skin is as close as possible to its natural colour. Also, do not use fake tan products for at least a week prior to treatment.
Post treatment care advice
- The area treated may feel red and warm for a few hours following treatment. If this is uncomfortable you can cool the area with a cold flannel.
- Refrain from using make-up on the treated area for the rest of that day
- Avoid tight clothing around treated areas
- Avoid exercise for 24 hours.
- Soothing gels can be applied such as Aloe Vera or Witch Hazel which are available to purchase at Beauté. These help to soothe the area, as well as having antiseptic properties.
- Leave the hair follicles for at least 7 days post-treatment, as it will help reduce any chance of an infection in the damaged follicle. These hairs will drop out naturally over the next 5-14 days.
